We have come a long way since ICEUR started as a scientific institution in an attempt at informing broad audiences about trends and events in the post-Soviet world. Down the road, we responded to the growing need for hands-on information and conflict management by providing customized analysis and conducting confidential meetings, In doing so, we upheld the standards of scientific work and ideological neutrality.
What on earth got us to launch a School of Political Forecasting? Forecasting and the forecasting trade enjoy a bad reputation. Forecasts oscillate between Nostradamus-type prophecies and highly technical, but useless exercises, which are comprehensible to a handful of specialists only. To toe the thin line between these extremes and to produce useful forecasts enabling a choice between several policy options is an art which combines skills and attitudes. Teaching this art using concrete topics from our regional expertise is the objective of our School.
The launching of this unique project also means that ICEUR goes global. Apart from storing materials and information relating to the School, and providing space for the School community, we would like to reach out to a broader public, informing them about ongoing and future projects and initiatives as well as ideas to be exchanged and discussed.
